Growing Ginger in Hydroponic
Grow in Dutch bucket, light require 16 to 18 hours. All ginger needs is filtered sunlight, warm and humid weather, and rich and moist soil. If you can Create these conditions inside your greenhouse, you can grow it in just about any climate!
To get started, look for a large Dutch bucket, wide planting container with good drainage holes, and a tray or saucer to set beneath it. Although it has shallow roots, this plant requires significant space to grow and spread. A shallow pot is fine as long as it is at least 12 inches wide. Next, source some ginger roots. You want to look for firm roots that look plump and juicy, not shriveled or withered. Try to find large, fat chunks, at least two inches long and two inches wide.
Look for roots with multiple budding eyes. These should look like little nodes sticking out from the skin, similar to the eyes of potatoes.
Need well drain, nutrient rich potting mixture, for that coco coir, peatmoss mix with some perlite combined with some compost or vermiculture.
Soak the roots in warm water overnight. In the morning, cut each root into sections, make sure that there is at least one bud eye on each piece. Cutting roots should be not less then 2 to 3 centimeters.
These eyes will sprout, so the more you are able to cut, the more plants you will have. Fill the container most of the way with the potting mixture, and place roots on top of the soil about 5 inches apart with the buds pointing upwards. Cover with potting mixture about two inch and give them water until the soil is moist but not wet.
Greenhouse should be warm humid and light require near about 5 hours and partly shaded condition require. It don’t require more bright sunlight and direct sunlight.
After 3 to 8 week it will shoot, but make sure humidity should be not less than 60% and not more than 80%. Keep watering them until shoots appear.
Cover lightly with about two more inches of potting mix, and water until the soil is moist to the touch but not wet.
We can use seeding tray also punch small hole in tray at bottom than fill couple of inches potting mixture, insert the cuttings, add ½ more potting mixture on top of it. Water well and cover with the plastic lid. Keep warm, and moist until began to see green shoot. Once you will see the shout you can transfer the seeds in big container.
Growing ginger in hydroponic natural condition is better.
Water will continually evaporate, for adding moisture in the air around plant.
It is important to make sure the mixture must be moist but draining well. It should be damp to the touch, but not soaking wet. Misting the surface of the soil with a spray anytime it when you feel dry by touching.
For feeding well use compost or vermiculture stem growth and foliage growth will be good.
When there is heavy leaf production please use balance fertilizer
When plant will grow 2 to 3 feet tall you will see tropical foliage or may be you will get 1 or 2 flower on it.
When planting rhizomes won’t be fully mature and for eight months, or so begin to harvest small pieces of the young roots three to four months after growth begins.
To harvest small pieces as require remove some soil from outer edges and get rhizomes around there.
Cut them with sharp scissors, and gently return the soil on the root.
For sprouting and growing ginger day time temperature should be 70–75o F., night time temperature should be not less then 50o F.
When you first plant ginger, do not over water. The soil just needs to be kept lightly misted so it doesn’t dry out. Once the shoots break through the soil, you can begin to water more generously. It appreciates the moisture, just make sure the soil is draining well.
